Neilly Group (NG) undertook streambank remediation design and construction of a site on the Flinders River as part of the DRFA project. The eroded vertical bank was approximately 8–10m high over a bank length of 810m. Remediation of this site included an alignment training pile field consisting of 18 pile field retards and 482 piles, bank reprofiling with a cut volume of approximately 19,000m3, rock beaching at the downstream extents of the site, installation of rock toe revetment on the leading piles, revegetation of 2.3ha of riverbank with grasses and 2,000 native trees, plus installation of drip irrigation.
NG were engaged to manage and undertake the construction as the principal contractor, subcontracting GM Grader Hire for construction, the Hinchinbrook Shire Council for supply of native trees and Strathdickie Plant Hire for revegetation and irrigation installation. The project was delivered on time, on budget and to erosion remediation best practice. The photographs below show the site before construction and immediately after construction, with hydromulch visible on the reprofiled bank.
